The Accountant II is responsible for mid-level accounting tasks, emphasizing complex reconciliations, regulatory compliance, and process enhancements. This role ensures transactional accuracy in accounts payable and payments, supports the preparation of financial reports, and plays a key role in month-end and year-end closing activities, working under the direction of the Accounting Manager/Controller.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Review accounts payable transactions and wire transfers processed by Accountant I, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely resolutions of escalated issues.
- Perform advanced reconciliations, including multi-currency accounts, donor-restricted funds, and interdepartmental transactions.
- Prepare journal entries for complex transactions, such as accruals, allocations, and adjustments.
- Assist with monthly and annual financial close processes, including reconciliation of financial accounts and preparation of internal reports.
- Support compliance and audit efforts by preparing schedules, documentation, and financial analyses as requested by the Accounting Manager/Controller.
- Collaborate with the Accounts Payable and Receivable Specialist to validate transactional data and improve processing workflows.
- Contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures, ensuring efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Accountant I, assisting with training on reconciliation and compliance standards.
- Research and resolve discrepancies in financial data, escalating issues to the Accounting Manager/Controller when necessary.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with exposure to accounts payable, reconciliations, and compliance.
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and solve problems independently.
- Strong understanding of financial compliance, reporting, and audit standards.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
