Job Summary:
The Director of Retail Operations is responsible for overseeing the strategic and operational management of the company’s 8 current cannabis retail stores. In addition to operating the stores, this role ensures compliance with state and local regulations, drives sales performance, enhances the customer experience, and fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation. The ideal candidate has experience in management of retail operations and personnel, spread across a wide geographical area, and demonstrates strong leadership, analytical, and strategic planning skills.The Director of Retail Operations will be working very closely with our 8 Retail Store Managers, our Product/Sales Manager, and our General Manager of Retail.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Develop and execute strategies to optimize retail operations, including inventory management, staffing, and store layout.
- Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for retail locations to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Work with Product/Sales Mgr to optimize product ordering, receiving, and general inventory practices.
- Monitor and analyze store performance metrics, including product sales, profit margins, and customer satisfaction, and implement data-driven improvements.
Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop retail managers to achieve individual and team goals. Work with Retail General Manager to Create training programs to ensure staff compliance with cannabis regulations, company policies, and customer service standards.
- Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture that aligns with the company’s mission and values.
- Weekly meetings with store managers. Weekly or bi-weekly visits to all JAR retail stores Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all retail operations comply with state and local cannabis regulations, including security protocols, inventory tracking, and customer verification including high level understanding of Dutchie and METRC.
- Collaborate with the owners to stay updated on changes in cannabis laws and implement necessary adjustments.
Customer Experience
- Design and implement strategies to enhance the customer experience and build brand loyalty.
- Monitor customer feedback and develop action plans to address concerns and improve service quality.
- Implement a consistent branding strategy across all stores to bring continuity in our signage, displays, branding and store layout.
- Use data and smart merchandising to drive sales.
Financial Management
- Weekly reconciliation with store managers on cash drops, petty cash and ATM fulfillment,
- Develop and manage retail budgets, including forecasting and expense control.
- Work with finance teams to analyze sales data, identify trends, and recommend strategies to increase profitability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with marketing teams to develop and execute promotions, events, and campaigns to drive traffic and sales.
- Collaborate with product teams to ensure stores are stocked with high-quality, in-demand products.
Other Duties As Assigned

Qualifications:
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, retail management, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- 7 years of experience in retail operations, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Cannabis industry experience or knowledge of cannabis retail regulations is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead and manage multi-location retail operations.
Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management. Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in retail management software and inventory systems.

Compensation:
- Salary range of $65k - $80k
- Quarterly performance-based bonus
