What are the responsibilities and job description for the Montessori Assistant Teacher for PreK-Kindergarten position at Little Oak Montessori School?
Little Oak Montessori School is looking for an Assistant Guide to support a Children’s House classroom (PreK & K) for the 2025-26 school year.
The Montessori Assistant Guide works closely with the Lead Guide to support the daily functioning of the classroom, maintain a peaceful and orderly environment, and assist children in their development of independence and concentration. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about early childhood education and the Montessori philosophy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Guide in maintaining a prepared, clean, and orderly environment.
- Gently guide children in developing independence, grace and courtesy, and practical life skills.
- Observe children respectfully and support their engagement in purposeful work.
- Assist with classroom management and supervision of indoor and outdoor activities.
- Maintain a calm and respectful demeanor in line with Montessori principles.
- Help with daily routines including arrival, dismissal, lunch, toileting, and nap/rest time.
- Collaborate with fellow staff and communicate professionally with parents when appropriate.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development, and school events as required.
Qualifications
- A genuine love for working with children ages 3–6.
- Familiarity with Montessori philosophy (preferred, but not required).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a childcare, preschool, or Montessori setting (preferred).
- Patience, reliability, and excellent communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and effective time management.
- Ability to work collaboratively and follow the direction of the Lead Guide.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (required within 90 days).
- Must be able to meet state licensing requirements for background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
- Montessori Assistant Training Certificate (AMI).
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
