The missionary will focus on integrating faith life within athletic programs and organizing retreats for both athletes and the wider student body. Key Responsibilities:
- Faith Integration in Athletics
- Collaborate with the Athletics Department to incorporate faith and spiritual development into team culture.
- Lead team prayer, spiritual reflections, and discussions on Catholic values with athletic teams.
- Develop programs that integrate faith formation with athletic performance, including sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork from a Catholic perspective.
- Provide spiritual mentorship and support for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
- Retreats and Faith Programming
- Organize and lead faith-based retreats for student-athletes, with a focus on their unique needs and experiences.
- Coordinate and facilitate retreats for the broader student body, highlighting Catholic teachings and Benedictine values
- Develop creative and engaging retreat content that resonates with both athletes and non-athletes, encouraging participation and spiritual growth.
- Manage retreat logistics, including scheduling, materials, promotion, and follow-up activities.
- Spiritual Mentorship and Community Building
- Serve as a spiritual role model for student-athletes and the wider student community, offering guidance in their faith journeys.
- Facilitate small-group Bible studies, faith-sharing groups, and team-building events rooted in Catholic tradition.
- Work alongside Campus Ministry staff to provide pastoral care and develop outreach programs that foster community and spiritual engagement on campus.
- Support student-athletes in navigating the challenges of balancing faith, academics, and athletics.
- Collaboration and Evangelization
- Partner with the Campus Ministry team to plan and execute campus-wide liturgies, service projects, and spiritual events.
- Work closely with coaches, faculty, and staff to create a faith-centered atmosphere within the athletic community.
- Represent the university’s Catholic identity at local parishes, schools, and diocesan events, especially in areas related to athletics and faith.
- Assist in recruiting prospective Catholic student-athletes through personal outreach and retreat programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field.
- A practicing Catholic with a deep understanding of Catholic teachings and a commitment to living out Benedictine values.
- Previous experience in youth ministry, sports ministry, or retreat leadership is preferred.
- Passion for evangelization and forming young adults, especially student-athletes, in their faith.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, coaches, and athletic staff.
- Organizational and leadership skills, particularly in event planning and retreat coordination.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel for retreats and athletic events as needed.
