What are the responsibilities and job description for the Customer Service Representative position at Nation's Home Medical Equipment?
Nation's Home Medical Equipment is seeking a full-time Customer Service Representative for our DME team to work in-house at our Owings Mills office. Typical schedule will be Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 5 PM and a rotating Saturday shift of 9-3.
Primary duties include:
- Take incoming customer calls, questions, and orders
- Advise patients/caregivers of the order placed on their behalf and to confirm all patient demographic information.
- Interpret and comprehend third party insurance billing
- Obtain verbal/written authorization for medical treatment from appropriate sources
- Acquire clinical information needed for order processing or reimbursement and assures customer qualifies under Insurance guidelines
- Communicate any financial responsibilities and/or additional information necessary to process the order received
- Provide information on equipment, supplies, and services
- Consider patient needs and promotes company products and services
- Occasionally verify insurance eligibility for patients
- Work collaboratively with peers across departments to solve problems creatively and urgently
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- At least one (1) year customer service, office, billing, finance, collections or accounting experience required.
- Experience and comfort using computer software required (data-entry, billing systems, etc.)
- Medical office/billing or DME experience preferred.
- Experience or training with medical/insurance terminology preferred.
- Knowledge of State and Federal (HIPAA) laws preferred
- Knowledge of Durable Medical Equipment, personal protective and safety equipment, multi-line phones, computer systems, point of sale systems and all other office equipment preferred
- Experience with insurance compliance/regulatory/billing requirements including local coverage determinations (LCDS), contracted providers, referral procedures, coding and billing information will be helpful
- Knowledge of medical records, procedures and terminology. Ability to read, interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
- Clerical: Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
