What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bagger Operator - 1st Shift position at NSP?
$14.75/hr ($14.25/hr base pay plus $0.50/hr shift pay)
POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for ensuring bags of cooked products are sealed and date-stamped according to specifications before they are boxed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Independently operate and adjust programs of the Bagger Machine.
- Set up bagging machines at the beginning of each shift, making adjustments as needed to accommodate different product sizes.
- Inspect unsealed bags to ensure there are no open bags that expose the product, having the risk of contamination.
- Must randomly check the seal on bags by firmly grasping the bag with both hands and pulling to determine if the seal is intact at least 2 times every hour.
- Must ensure that proper film is used for each product according to the company’s standards.
- Calibrate and clean the scale bucket by wiping it clean of the product as needed.
- Visually monitor the weight of bags to ensure weights are within specification and adjust as needed using a touch screen monitor.
- Assure the proper dates and BEST BY stamps are on the bags and printed clearly.
- Perform routine maintenance on bagging machinery, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with maintenance personnel for repairs.
- Must notify supervisor and/or maintenance of any deviation immediately, so corrective measures can be taken to resolve the problem.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)
- Experience in operating bagging machinery or any machine, preferably in a food processing environment.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and quality standards in food packaging.
- Attention to detail to ensure proper packaging and labeling.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderately heavy items.
- Ability to work in both warm or cold and/or refrigerated environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and regulated environment.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English with strong verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Spanish is helpful, but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to have a full range of body motion including twisting, bending, reaching outward, pushing, pulling, intensive hand/wrist movement and lifting to meet the NSP minimum required pounds per day which is 50-80 pounds or more (unassisted). The employee must be able to walk and stand for a significant amount of time on even concrete surfaces, which may at times be slippery due to marinades, water, and other liquids associated with the production process.
Due to noise levels in the work environment, the use of hearing protection is required. The employee must have good, corrected vision to see details at close range or at a distance. The employee will be working in a climate-controlled environment of -40ºF to -45ºF. The employee may be exposed to strong odors such as raw meat and marinades from seasoned meat.
While in the production area, the employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include hair and beard nets, rubber soled shoes, smocks, hearing protection and hard hats.
