What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Scribe/Medical Assistant position at OWM Integrative Wellness?
In the role of Medical Assistant, responsibilities encompass customer service, obtaining and documenting patient history and visit purpose. Tasks include preparing patient for exam, preparing room and assisting with procedures, post procedure calls, presenting patient history summary to provider. This position will also require active involvement in patient triage activities and supporting the operations of the medical practice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patient Triage and Clinical Support
- Works to optimize patient flow (keeps doctor on schedule, minimizes excessive waiting time by patient).
- Greets and escorts patient to exam room. Interviews patients to identify any changes to medications and update medial history.
- Measures and records vital signs including weight, pulse, temperature and blood pressure.
- Obtains and documents accurate medical history - past medical, surgical, social histories and review of systems.
- Obtains and documents chief complaint and history of present illness
- Explains treatment procedures to patients
- Obtains signed consent for procedures
- Prepares patient for examination by provider and assists during examination and procedures as needed.
- Cleans up treatment room and prepares room for next patient
- Properly and safely disposes of contaminated supplies
- Maintain instruments and clean/sterilize equipment as required
- Prepare PRP/Stem cell products per protocol under the direction of a licensed provider
- Post procedure follow up calls to patients
- Arranges for laboratory services
- Monitor supply levels in treatment rooms and restock as needed to ensure room is prepared for patient visits
- Monitor & manage inventory in office and notify management of supplies to be ordered
- Provide peptide consent & materials with instructions for clients
- Tracking and monitoring of patient testing and bloodwork as part of chart preparation
2. Inventory, Purchasing and Supply Management
- Monitors, orders and maintains inventory for office and medical supplies
- Works closely with practice departments and practice manager to ensure resource requirements are fulfilled in a timely manner
- Monitor and make pre-filled syringes, updating SOP as needed
- Receives, opens incoming shipments, updates inventory and puts items away
3. Equipment Quality Assurance
- Ability to follow up on issues and inquiries with laboratories and vendors in a professional manner verbally and in writing.
- monitor equipment for appropriate storage, use, cleaning/sterilization, and the related supplies and reports.
- Monitor medical fridge & freezers (monitoring temp and defrosting as needed)
4. Administrative Tasks and Operations Support:
- Greets all patients with OWM greeting and follows procedure for welcoming patients to office
- Review and update patient demographic information if changes have occurred.
- Schedule patients for treatment or follow up appointments
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Work Environment:
- Works in an office environment with occasional exposure to patient care areas.
- May be required to occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds.

Preferred Education & Experience:
- HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED IS REQUIRED
- 2 YEAR COLLEGE DEGREE IS PREFERRED
- 2-3 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WORKING WITHIN A HEALTH CARE SETTING IN WHICH THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY WAS THE COMPLETION OF CLERICAL, GENERAL OFFICE, PATIENT ACCOUNTING AND RECEPTION ORIENTED TASKS.
