ROLE DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a book department assistant with experience as a bookseller or library assistant. The team member in this role will spend part of their time covering the book department, assisting customers in finding books while shelving and stocking. They will learn and do used book buying. About half of the time is spent at the front service counter, providing customer service, working the register and receiving shipments of merchandise into the store for all departments. All team members maintain the store and assist each other in all aspects of their work.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Retail sales experience, preferably in a locally-owned store. Bookselling experience preferred.
- Must be an avid reader with a knowledge of a wide range of literary genres and categories.
- Provides great customer service with a warm and welcoming approach.
- Solid administrative skills and experience.
- Is highly organized and motivated
- Is able to lift and carry 40 lbs. upstairs, climb ladders, and use basic tools to assemble displays.
- Is flexible and able to work Friday through Monday from 12-8 PM.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides warm, welcoming customer service at the service counter and on the sales floor.
- Assists with admin, including receiving incoming shipments and opening and closing of the store.
- Stocking, book shelving and maintenance of displays.
- Will learn used book buying skills.
- Back-stock and physical inventory management and general maintenance of the store, including cleaning.
- Assists with annual inventory
- Maintains excellent communication with Managers, Buyers and Leadership Team.
