Controls harbor traffic for the safe and timely movement of waterborne traffic into and out of the harbor, as well as ship movement between berths within the harbor; dispatches pilot boats, harbor police and others; contacts shipping agents, governmental agencies and others regarding ship movement; maintains records and logs; and performs other related duties as assigned.
To qualify, you must meet ALL of the following requirements:
General Experience: Two (2) years of experience which demonstrated that the applicant possesses the following abilities:
1) Meet and deal effectively with people.
2) Understand and apply various rules and regulations.
3) Prepare reports.
4) Act effectively in emergencies.
Federal Criminal History Records Check (TWIC):
In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the harbor must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within seven years from the date of appointment. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding seven years.
The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility. However, upon hire, the employee will be reimbursed provided he/she submit the TWIC receipt to his/her supervisor.
