What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Tresidio Homes?

Tresidio Homes is seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Controller to join our growing homebuilding company.

Job Purpose: This role is integral to the success of our accounting team, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting with experience in journal entries, month-end close processes, consolidations, and multi-entity operations. A CPA or CPA candidate with at least five years of experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

  • Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP.
  • Oversee and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements for multiple entities.
  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and ensure proper eliminations in consolidated reporting.

Reconciliations & Variance Analysis

  • Perform bank reconciliations for multiple accounts.
  • Investigate discrepancies, variances, and unusual transactions, providing actionable insights.
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules and related depreciation.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Assist in developing annual budgets and reforecasts.
  • Track actual results against budgets, providing variance analyses to management.
  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure budget adherence and financial accountability.

Audit & Compliance

  • Prepare audit schedules and assist with external and internal audits.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate records to support audit readiness at all times.

Banking & External Reporting

  • Prepare and provide financial reports to banks, investors, and other external stakeholders as required.
  • Assist with covenant compliance reporting and monitoring.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support the implementation and optimization of accounting software and other financial tools.

Qualifications:

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA license or active CPA candidate strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in construction, real estate, or homebuilding industries.
  • Experience with multi-entity operations and consolidations.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and industry-specific accounting principles.

Skills

  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with job costing and completed contract method of accounting.
  • Experience in preparing financial reports for banks or investors.
  • Knowledge of accounting software such as Quickbooks and Mark Systems.

Compensation: Base Salary Commission-Based Earnings; No cap
