What are the responsibilities and job description for the Culinary Club Coordinator position at Vail Valley Foundation?
The Culinary Club Coordinator will design, plan, and implement an engaging culinary afterschool program across four middle schools in Eagle County. This program aims to inspire a love for cooking, develop culinary skills, and foster an appreciation for diverse foods and cultural traditions.
Each week, the coordinator will guide a group of students through hands–on cooking and baking activities, introducing them to new cuisines and cultures. Lessons will include developmentally appropriate activities that incorporate academic connections, such as math, science, literacy, history, and other educational topics.
REQUIREMENTS
- Highly organized, and able to balance the schedules and needs of multiple school sites
- Experience in the culinary arts
- Strong problem-solving skills, while being able to adapt and be creative when changes occur
- Knowledge of public school and OST (out of school time) systems
- Familiarity with grades 6-8 learning and development stages
- Work experience with youth and/or nonprofits
- Previous experience working and excelling in a fast paced, multi-level, project-based environment with emphasis on timelines, quality, and delivery
- Capable of remaining focused and calm under stressful situations
- Proven ability to make critical decisions independently and with little supervision
- Team approach and willingness to assist others when called upon
- A strengths-based approach to youth and families
- Passion for inspiring young learners
RESPONSIBILITIES
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with the culinary interests and skill levels of
middle school students
- Plan and prepare weekly meals (including all ingredients for each site), ensuring the
inclusion of diverse cuisines and healthy eating habits
- Lead cooking lessons by implementing new culinary skills and techniques
- Integrate Math, Science, Literacy, History, and other educational topics relevant to
cooking
- Ensure all food safety and sanitation practices are followed
- Communicate with school staff and families about special activities, student progress,
and any special events.
- Manage program supplies and equipment for each session and each site
- Encourage teamwork, collaboration, and problem–solving skills
- Submit and track expenses
- Attendance and assistance in set up/break down at work and school related events
- Maintain a safe and respectful environment in all situations
- Report program operations to upper management
- Build connections with students and school staff
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
- Experience with middle school aged children and/or a background in education
- Conversational in Spanish and English (preferred)
- Must be able to drive a 15–passenger van
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- $25.00-$35.00 per hour based on experience
- 20-25 hours per week
- Accrue designated sick time at a rate of one (1) hour of sick time for every thirty (30) hours worked
