PURPOSE, SCOPE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and management of the golf course, including grounds, facilities, and equipment. This role ensures that the golf course meets high-quality standards and provides an exceptional playing experience for members and guests. The superintendent supervises staff, manages budgets, and implements strategies to maintain and enhance the course’s condition year-round. This position is full time year-round.
Reports to: City Administrator
Supervision: Assistant Head Groundskeeper, Groundskeepers FLSA Status: Exempt
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Course Maintenance and Management:
· Plan and oversee the maintenance of greens, fairways, tees, and roughs.
· Monitor turf conditions, ensuring proper irrigation, fertilization, mowing, and pest control practices.
· Identify and resolve agronomic issues, such as turf diseases and invasive species.
· Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainability practices.
Team Supervision and Leadership:
· Recruit, train, and supervise groundskeeping staff, providing clear direction and feedback.
· Develop schedules and assign daily tasks to the maintenance team.
· Foster a safe, efficient, and positive work environment.
Equipment and Facilities Management:
· Maintain and repair course equipment, tools, and irrigation systems.
· Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of maintenance facilities.
· Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and services.
Budget and Administrative Duties:
· Develop and manage the annual maintenance budget, tracking expenses and optimizing resources.
· Maintain records of pesticide application, equipment servicing, and staff training.
· Prepare and present reports on course conditions, budgets, and improvement plans.
Course Improvement Projects:
· Collaborate with City Administrator on course enhancements and redesign projects.
· Stay updated on trends and innovations in turf management and golf course maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or related field.
· Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in golf course maintenance or management.
Knowledge and Skills:
· Strong knowledge of turfgrass science, irrigation systems, and course equipment.
· Proficiency in pest and disease management practices.
· Experience with budget preparation and financial management.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Certifications:
· Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Certification.
· Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
