GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Dean will provide leadership in all facets of program design, academic advising services, staff development, and program assessment for Academic Advising including: Advising Center, Transfer Advising, and all advising technologies.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Leadership and Management

  • Oversee the delivery of proactive advising services for all prospective and current students.
  • Provide strategic vision, aligning departmental goals with institutional strategic plans.
  • Ensure student records and departmental practices are in compliance with local and federal policy and guidelines.
  • Engage with regional and national organizations for professional development.
  • Develop and implement campus-wide professional development opportunities for advisors.
  • Oversee academic intervention initiatives such as Student Success, Academic Review, Academic Probation, and Academic Dismissal.
  • Direct the training and on-going support for technology-enabled advising technologies including EAB Navigate.
  • Maintain a caseload of advisees.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Research and Planning in on-going assessment of the effectiveness of the department. Coordinate planning and evaluation activities and oversees reports, program reviews, and strategic planning, etc.
  • Oversee the advisor assignment process as prescribed by College policy and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Collaborate with academic leadership to ensure consistent advising practices campus wide.
  • Serve as Jenzabar advising manager and EAB Navigate Administrator. Attend Jenzabar Operations committee meetings.

Supervision

  • Supervise professional and administrative staff including all full and part-time Academic Advisors and Coordinators in the Advising Center, Transfer Coordinator, and an Administrative Assistant as well as the Director of Testing and Career Services.
  • Assist in the search process for new employees.
  • Clearly defines and evaluates performance expectations.
  • Communicate information to staff via multiple platforms; conduct weekly staff meetings; chair the Advising Directors Community of Practice meeting monthly.
  • Maintain staff schedules, requests for time off, and weekly timesheet approval.
  • Promote a positive work environment which encourages free exchange of ideas and empowers staff development.
  • Conduct timely annual performance evaluations.

Fiscal Management and Contract Services

  • Prepare and monitors annual budgets for all departmental programs and activities.
  • Support campus grant activities, goals, and reporting requirements.

Other Duties

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of all matters pertaining to the division of Student Retention & Completion.
  • Serve on College Meeting committees and other committees, as assigned.
  • Develop, manage, and implement other related projects, as necessary.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Master's degree in Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, or a master's degree with five years of progressively more responsible work experience in academic advising, student retention or student success programs, including staff development and evaluation in a college setting.
  • Five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience using technology in the advising process, academic pathways and student retention services.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and practice to improve student retention.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; adaptable and flexible.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluent speaker and writer of Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese, or other world language.
  • Community college experience.
  • Experience with the integration of technology and alternative delivery systems of instruction in the teaching-learning-advising process.

Additional Information:


COMPENSATION
: Annual Salary Range: $90,000 to $95,000, dependent upon qualifications. Full-time, benefited, Non-Unit Professional position. Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program including option for membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
