What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Controller position at Catalycs Value Partners?
We are looking to bring on a Corporate Controller to stand up the Finance function of a newly acquired manufacturing company by one of our private equity clients. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will play a pivotal role in building the financial infrastructure, ensuring that our operations are supported by robust accounting systems, sound financial processes, and actionable insights. The transaction is a carveout of a subsidiary from a larger entity, so there will be a need to participate in separation planning and execution activities post-close.
The role is initially remote, but will be expected to become hybrid after an initial 2-3 month period. As such, candidates should currently be residing within commuting distance to the Kearny, New Jersey area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Separation Planning and Execution: Play a leading role in the separation of the finance function from the seller entity, including identification of TSAs and system, process, people, and data transitions
- Finance Function Setup: Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems to establish the finance function. Design scalable accounting processes and workflows to support future growth and expansion.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Financial Reporting: Design and produce timely and accurate financial reports to provide visibility into the company's financial performance. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards to monitor progress against strategic objectives.
- Budgeting and Planning: Lead the budgeting and planning process, working closely with department heads to develop financial forecasts and operating budgets. Provide guidance and support to optimize resource allocation and maximize profitability.
- Internal Controls: Implement robust internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks. Establish segregation of duties, authorization protocols, and compliance measures to ensure integrity and transparency in financial operations.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior management to support strategic decision-making and drive business growth.
- Team Building and Development: Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing finance team to support the company's objectives. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide coaching and professional development opportunities to empower team members to excel in their roles.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with significant exposure to startup or high-growth environments.
- Experience in M&A and/or startup environments; strong preference for experience during carveout acquisitions
- Financial controlling experience at manufacturing organizations
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting requirements
- Hands-on experience with accounting software and ERP systems; familiarity with cloud-based solutions preferred. Strong preference for candidates who have overseen a transition or an implementation of a new ERP system

- Proven track record of building finance functions from the ground up and driving process improvements.
- Currently residing within commuting distance to the Kearny, New Jersey area.
- Permanent US Work Authorization (US Citizenship or Green Card)
